Hekate

Hekate (Hecate) is a powerful goddess from ancient times. She is associated with witchcraft, crossroads, magic, night, light, many types of plants, necromancy, black dogs and so much more, she is a really complex Goddess.For this painting I was a little conflicted because part of me just wanted to let my imagination go about her appearence, but I thought it was better to make her a bit similar to the ancient representations. I was also divided if I was going to represent her in a triple form or not, but in the older depictions she wasn't triple and for this painting I thought it made more sense like this. I tried to include many of her associations and symbolisms, but when I was thinking about everything, I thought that would be nice to merge the torches and the black dogs. These animals are often associated with her and viewed as guides that are protecting and showing the way. I think part of this symbolisms could be associated with the torches that iluminates the path and can be used to protect too, so I thought that would be awesome to merge these two.
